Exeter Rowing Club Juniors compete at JIRR trials

On Saturday 26th March thirteen Juniors went to Dart Totnes Rowing Club to compete in the Junior Inter-Regional trials in a bid to gain a spot to compete at the National Water Sports Centre in April. Racing over 1000m and in some very challenging conditions, including a vist from a friendly seal, we came away with an exceptionally strong set of results.

We started the day with the WJ16 4X, with a short time together as a crew they rowed well and won convincingly. With 2 months until Nottingham they are going to be a force to be reckoned with! Also in division 1 was Rhys racing in the J16 1x. After coming back from time out due to injury he put down a fast time but just fell a couple seconds short. The final racing crew in the first division was Jessica and Izzy in a very competitive WJ15 2x field and secured a spot on the JIRR team. Special mention to Alex Judd who although was not racing anybody he still set down a very quick time in these tricky conditions.

Fiona and Louise won the WJ16 2x in commanding fashion stamping their dominance across the region in style by a staggering 30s. Very well done.

The third and final division Evie shone in the WJ16 1x beating her competition comfortably and winning. Izzy and Jessica F both raced in the WJ15 1x, with not only a spot up for grabs but also some internal club bragging rights, unfortunately though both raced superbly separated by just  a handful of seconds both just fell short of the win. Our last crew was Jessica C and Rosa in the WJ14 2x, our most dominant crew of the day setting an astonishing quick time being the 2nd fastest in the entire division!

Well done to everyone who raced and conquered their nerves and performed admirably. A brilliant day out for Exeter Rowing Club winning 5 events and now excited to represent the South West in Nottingham.
