Junior success at the Dart-Totnes Autumn Head

The first event for the Exeter Rowing Club Juniors squad saw members from all groups take to the river Dart to do battle over the 3km course.

Division 1 saw 5 Exeter boats, racing in smaller boats of singles and doubles coming away with wins for Alex in J14x, Fiona and Louise in WJ16 2x and Hollie and Evie in the WJ18 2x, and a great second place in WJ18 2x for Trixie and Amelia. Izzy had an impressive row in her first single race in the WJ15 1x category. All crews enjoyed a low fog as they rowed up to the start which began to clear by the time racing began, this allowed for multiple picturesque photograph opportunities which were snapped up by Sue O’Connor. An excellent start to the days racing.

Division 2 saw a considerably smaller entry list, three J18 1x of Tommy, Sam and Otto but unfortunately Tommy having to scratch due to a back injury, however Sam and Otto took to the J18 1x with a positive attitude and good aggression but just fell short of the win. Anya and Phoebe had a great first race together in the WJ15 2x and the WJ16 4x+ of Abi, Fiona, Charlotte and Ellen, coxed by Summer, had an amazing row and won their event convincingly by over 30 seconds.

Division 3 looked to be an exciting one, with 3 crews entered in the WJ16 1x. Fiona, Louise and Evie. Separated by just a mere handful of seconds Fiona took the win closely followed by Louise and then Evie. Amelia also had a good row in the WJ18 1x.

Overall, an excellent day for our junior squad coming away with a very impressive 5 wins. Well done to all, and hope to see everyone at Exeter Winter Head!
