Two of our former juniors have excelled this year.
Firstly, Phoebe Campbell was selected to represent GB at the U23 World Championships in Varese in the coxless four where her crew won a silver medal.
Secondly and without doubt the outstanding performances of the year, Edward Fuller in his first season as a senior athlete has won no less the four Gold Medals as a P3 athlete. First up was the first World Cup event in Belgrade where, sat in the three seat in the P3 Mixed 4+, they overwhelmed their opposition from Australia. Next for the crew were the European Championships in Munich where they again had a very convincing win. And so to the recent World Championships in the Czech Republic where his crew were entered in both the P3 2X and Mixed 4+ events. With Ollie Stanhope in the 2X, they won gold in this event by a massive 27 seconds and then followed this with victory in the mixed coxed four winning by 18 seconds in a new world best time.
“This year has been so much fun, stepping up from juniors at Exeter straight into such massive events such as World Cups, European and World Championships has certainly been a steep learning curve but I’m loving the challenge of being in the prestigious GB PR3 Mix4+ and the history this boat has for GB with 12 seasons unbeaten. I’m looking forward to seeing what the second half of the season brings us and can’t thank Exeter Rowing Club enough for all their support over my junior career!” – Ed Fuller
