Exeter Winter Head Race Saturday 30th January 2016
The day of the Exeter Head race dawned a slightly drizzly but classically cold winter’s day. There was a good turn out for the two divisions, with the local schools, Universities, and Rowing Clubs turning up to race. Conditions were fair, with a strong head wind blowing down the middle section of the course, making it tough going at times. Exeter Rowing Club members turned out in their numbers to race on their home territory, with lots of entries from the juniors, up to the vets, including a mixed vets 8 boat. There were wins for many of the crews, including:
Mens Novice 8+ Phil Brailey (cox), Tom Smalley, Sim Bates, Chad Allery, Nick Hawkins, Sam Gilman, Jack Turner, James Weston, Tom O’Shea
Mens SA 8+ – Sam Cope (cox), Paul Minchell, James Kessell, Chad Allery, Rob Stirling, Tom Smalley, Jo Thorp, Marcus Worthington, Jack Doble
Womens Novice 8+ – Tomas Shipton (cox), Dani Wall, Sancha Rees, Katherine Boyd, Anne Marie Fallon, Amy Hill, Sarah Addington Hall, Abby Bartram, Frances Kelly
Womens J16 4x+ – Abby Jones (cox), Bree Spivey, Molly Batchelor, Rebecca Vater, Evie Drew.
Womens J14 2x Emily Vater and .
Womens J18 1x Poppy Bowyer.
Congratulations to all the winners, for some of whom this was the first of hopefully many to come.
And, congrats to all the other club members who rowed the course, many of them setting impressive course times. Also a particular well done to all the junior girls and boys rowing in the Senior Men and Women’s squads.
