Junior Squad

We welcome juniors aged 12-18 to row for fun, or to compete at local events. We also provide the opportunities for junior rowers to compete at regional, national or international levels.

Welcome to the Junior Squad

Exeter Rowing Club has one of the largest and most successful junior programmes in the South West.

We welcome young people aged 12-18 from schools across Exeter and the surrounding area.

Our junior programme aims to:

  • Introduce young people to rowing in a fun and safe environment.
  • Develop technical rowing skills.
  • Build confidence and teamwork.
  • Improve fitness and resilience.
  • Provide opportunities to race at local, regional and national events.
  • Help every athlete reach their own potential.

Whether your ambition is simply to enjoy rowing with friends or to compete nationally, you'll receive excellent coaching and become part of a friendly club community.

Junior club structure and who’s who

Our experienced Coaches set and run the junior training plan and race calendar for each season, selecting crews and allocating boats, and are ably supported by the Junior Coordinator, Club Welfare O icer, Junior Squad Captains and Parent helpers.

Junior Learn to Row

We encourage people to have a go at rowing whatever their age and ability. The Junior Learn to Row is aimed at 12 to 16 year olds and is run by one of our experienced Coaches. If you are interested in learning to row with the Junior Squad please complete the on-line application form, and e-mail our Junior Coordinator, and your name will be placed on a waiting list.

Learn to Row training sessions may take place on Monday/Thursday evenings and/or Sunday mornings. Beginners are offered 3 free trial sessions before being invited to join the club as a member.
