ERC Senior Women’s 4+ travelled to Walton on Thames last Saturday, to take part in the Walton and Weybridge Regatta. They joined nearly 300 other crews to race this 2 lane river regatta over 1000m downstream.
Five crews were entered in this event, all others from local clubs who train and regularly race on the Thames. In their first race Exeter raced Eton Excelsior. Exeter started badly and were quickly a half a length down on their opposition. However, the crew worked hard for the first minute of the race and soon came back through the Eton boat and had a comfortable lead by the 400m mark, so were able to easy off. Exeter went on to win the race by 3 lengths in a time of 3:18. In the final Exeter faced Reading Rowing Club, who had previously beaten Twickenham RC to reach the final. This race followed much the same pattern as the one before with Exeter having a bad start but quickly coming back through the Reading 4+. In this race Exeter continued at race pace and eventually won the race in a time of 3:12 and by 5 lengths.
A good result and good preparation for Henley Women’s regatta in 2 weeks’ time.
