The last race of the season was Bideford Regatta. Still in the hunt for multiple championships the junior squad looked to end the season on a high! The tide was high and the wind was strong, the perfect recipe for a great days racing.
After an early start our first boat off was our WJ14 4X+, having a dominant row over Totnes and Reds they were the first of 6 wins at the regatta. Despite winning every race they entered this WEARA season they just fell short of the championship by a singular point. Abi Adams racing in the WJ16 1x also put on a good show winning in style picking up our second win of the day.
Our attention then turned to the Junior boys of Sam and Rhys racing in the Sen C 1x who although did not win they put up a good fight and had a very quick turn around for the J18 1x heats where Tommy joined Sam on the start line for the first heat. Both progressing to the final it was Tommy who took a convincing win in J18 1x! Our third win of the day.
I think its safe to say that the WJ18 1x was a pretty dominant display by Hollie! Winning by a country mile, it was excellent to watch! Well done Hollie on our fourth win of the regatta! Also credit goes to both our WJ16 2x who although did not take the win, they both had good races and picked up a second place. Jess and Anya also performed well racing up an age category.
We had a scratch women’s J18 four racing comprised of Niamh, Evie, Fiona and Louise who even though had had minimal time together they took the championship winners Totnes all the way to the line just missing out by a canvas in one of the closest races of the day.
Our fifth regatta win and first championship came from our WJ16 4X+, who picked up their third win of the season together meaning they are the WEARA champions for 2022! Congratulations Fiona, Louise, Izzy, Ellen and Abi. Excellent work!
Tommy was our final race in the Sen A 1x and got the biggest cheer of the day in his last junior race! Coming from behind he took the win over the Wimbleball sculler and finished his time at ERC on a high!
