Breezy Day for Juniors at Wimbleball Regatta

Another breezy day with rain, sun and some interesting moments. Memorable racing from the WJ13 quad of Lucy D, Hollie, Lucy W, Evie O with cox Megan. They demonstrated a new technique in their race which perhaps needs more exploration – and certainly a video! Their first win. Well done girls – you proved that giving up is not an option and you can recover… The J13 boys were not to be outdone with Sam and Isaac winning in their J13 double. The WJ16 quads then both won their heats so the first four races and four wins for Exeter. A great start.

The juniors once again had a successful days racing with all crews sculling well and adapting to the conditions as well as new crews. There were some interesting moments from some of the more experienced scullers too with air shots and handbrake turns included. The star of the day was sub-mariner Oliver who disembarked (disappeared) after his and Ed’s doubles win in spectacular style. Our president Paul was on hand to see him resurface – but sadly no video – just lots of laughter.

Again we had lots of family support on the bank and once again the juniors helped and supported each other all day. The newer racers are beginning to look like old hands.

Many thanks to Nigel for loaning us his truck again and Captain Joe for taking on trailer duties. Thanks are also due to Ian for bringing his gazebo to park alongside the new Club shelter (bought from the proceeds of the bacon roll sales).
