British Rowing Junior Championships

Last weekend Exeter sent up a large group of juniors to the British Rowing Junior Championships at the National Water Sports Centre. With great weather on all 3 days, it set the scene for an excellent weekend of racing.

On the Friday we had two crews racing, Rhys in the J15 1x, and Fiona and Louise in the WJ15 2x. Rhys had a strong time trial placing 17th and gaining him a spot in the C final later on in the day. The double also achieved a spot in the C final placing 15th in their time trial. In the final Rhys placed 4th which is a very strong result for his first ever appearance at Brit Champs. To round off the day Fiona and Louise had an excellent final and coming in 2nd.

The next day the J16s were out in force. With Hollie and Lucy both in singles, and the combination of Sam and Rhys doing the J16 2x, whilst Amelia and Trixie were in the WJ16 2X.  Kicking off the day strong with all crews having outstanding time trials. Hollie and Lucy had an enthralling final, with Hollie finishing 2nd ,and Lucy close behind in 3rd. The double boys had a solid result coming 5th in the B final, and the girls double came 5th in their final

The third and final day, time for the J18s. With Claire racing WJ18 1x, 2 J18 2x entered and a WJ18 4x the club had high hopes. Claire commenced the day and obtained a spot in the C final. Next up were the two doubles of Tommy and Jacob, and Ed and Ollie, they both had good time trial results and found themselves in the B and A finals respectively. The girls quad also gained a place in the C final in which they finished 3rd. In the final races of the day the boys doubled ended the weekend on a high note. Tommy and Jacob winning the B final, and the reigning champions Ed and Ollie winning in dominant fashion by over 15s, which makes them four times British Champions!

A very well done to the whole club for a superb 3 days of racing!
