The South Coast Championships were held at Wimbleball lake on the 12/13th of September. It was a wet and windy weekend, making conditions difficult.
On the Sunday, Exeter Rowing Club junior squad were invited to enter seven events, following on from their great performance over the summer regatta season. The events were held over a 1000 metre stretch of the lake. Of the seven events entered, they came through to convincingly win six and came second in the other event. These successes secured the club the greatest number of points over the weekend, winning the Victor Ludorum cup, making ERC juniors the overall winners of the regatta and we could possibly go as far as to say the best junior team on the South Coast for 2015.
The winning crews were as follows:
WJ14 4x+ – Kate Doble, Emily Vater,, Evie Drew, cox Eleanor Holmes (they beat the WEARA champions, Castledore into second place)
WJ15 4x+ – Bree Spivey, Molly Batchelor, Rebecca Vater, Phoebe Campbell, cox Kate Doble
WJ16 4+ – Danielle Mclean, Georgia Bonfield, Molly Batchelor, Hannah Allison, cox Danielle Stuart
WJ15 1x & WJ16 1x – Phoebe Campbell
J16 4+ – Dan Turner, Jack Turner, Jack Doble, Robbie Eggen, cox Abby Jones
J16 4x+ – Dan Turner, Chad Allery, Robbie Eggen, Jack Doble, cox Abby Jones (who just missed out on first place)
The day before, Phoebe Campbell also competed in the Women’s Senior C 1x event, after being moved up from the Junior 18 1x event as there were no other competitors. This was a 2K course and she secured another convincing win, easily beating Rebecca Butchart from Plymouth Rowing Club who came in second.
Thanks go to Dave and Sue Brooks for all their guidance and coaching of the juniors over the summer season and the long winter before that.
