Some of our older juniors made the trip up to Eton Dorney to race at the Wallingford Regatta. Sending up 6 scullers racing in 3 events this would be an excellent test to see how we compare against the other clubs in the first regatta in the season for most.
Hollie started the day racing in the WJ18 1x, due to the number of entries received she had a heat with the fastest 6 going through to the A final later that afternoon. Up against some top scullers she finished 4th in her heat and an agonising 7th overall she just missed out on the final by less than 3s. None the less Hollie still performed amazingly and had a great start to her season getting a solid result.
The girl’s quad was second off. Abi, Niamh, Trixie and Amelia competed in the WSch/Jun 4x. Competing against some top-quality high-performance clubs the girls came 6th in their heat and had the 11th fastest time of the day. All great experience of multi lane racing!
Closing out the day we had Tommy in the Op J18 1x, racing near the end of the day it allowed for all members who had raced to come and support him. Racing in a 7 lane straight final against numerous trialists Tommy knew he was in for a good race, and a good race it was. Having a phenomenal start taking a slender lead, right in the mix at the K and finishing in 3rd. A special thank you to Dan Millington from Tommy’s school, Wellington School who made the trip up to come and watch Tommy, thank you!
With a 3rd, 7th and 11th Exeter Rowing Club had an excellent day at Wallingford Regatta and we were joined by more members for the next day racing at the Junior Sculling Regatta.
